After a spectacular start to 2011 with top PS3 games in January like LittleBigPlanet 2 and Mass Effect 2, February brings driving and blockbusting action.
One of the biggest PS3 exclusives of 2011 is released this month and gives PlayStation Move fans another reason to plug-in their motion controllers and owners of 3D TVs a chance to show off.
Test Drive Unlimited 2 (Atari)
The fourteen year old franchise continues with the tenth Test Drive game, hot on the heels of Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and Gran Turismo 5. Featuring races across Ibiza and Hawaii in performance cars from Aston Martin, Lotus, Mercedes and others, Test Drive Unlimited 2 challenges players over 60 levels to build up personal wealth and live a luxury lifestyle.
The game differs from other racing titles by allowing players to step outside of their cars and purchase homes and clothes and walk around clubs and car dealerships. Behind the wheel there's plenty to enjoy, too, as the game features weather effects, vehicle damage, day and night cycles and over 170 vehicles.
Online multiplayer and social gaming are also a big feature, with players able to interact with via avatars, engage in 8-player races and even sit inside each other's cars before races begin.
Test Drive Unlimited 2 is a PS3 racing game for those who dream of living the high-life.
Bulletstorm (Electronic Arts)
Co-developed by Gears of War creators Epic Games, Bulletstorm is an ultra-violent FPS set in the future where players take control of mercenary Grayson Hunt as he fights to escape from an alien planet and take revenge on a corrupt Galactic Confederation.
The game promises over-the-top action and spectacular visuals as Hunt, and his partner Ishi Sato, must fight against mutants and flesh eaters using spectacular combat moves and very large weapons. There's gore aplenty and enough expletives to earn it an adult rating, as well as multiplayer modes that reward creative kills.
As reviews on Metacritic are showing, Bulletstorm is looking like a fun, action-packed game but has to compete with February's other big FPS for the PS3...
Killzone 3 (Sony Computer Entertainment)
The second top PS3 exclusive of 2011 (after LittBigPlanet 2), Killzone 3 rides onto the console in a wave of expectation after the last game, against the odds, managed to live up to the hype upon release in 2009.
Picking up the action quickly after the events of Killzone 2, the player again takes the role of Sev, now trapped on the Helghan as it tears itself apart following the death of dictator Visari, the Empire's leader. A quality storyline is promised alongside the gung-ho action as the player progresses across environments as varied as snowy landscapes and jungles. Like previous Killzone games, many weapons are available and players can now also use jetpacks.
But perhaps the biggest new features of Killzone 3 are support for PlayStation Move and 3D graphics. Players can choose to play the game using the PS3's new motion control system and previews suggest this works surprisingly well. And those people with 3D TVs will get an extra treat by being able to play the game in the third dimension.
Combining high-res graphics, stunning action, comprehensive multiplayer and a host of special features, Killzone 3 looks like a FPS blockbuster.
The PS3 Games of February 2011
February continues a great year for the PS3 that started with three top games in January. There's more to look forward to in March, including the mighty Crysis 2, but there's still the top games released for Christmas to enjoy, such as Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit and Gran Turismo 5.
